Liard First Nation Hide Tanning Camp
When:
Community
The Liard First Nation Language Department we will be hosting another Hide Tanning and Language Camp this year! May 6th - May 24th, 2024.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Here are the instructions we received from the Elder who will be teaching:
🌟 There are 10 spots open for people who want to learn the entire hide tanning process.
🌟Anyone interested in claiming a spot to learn MUST commit to the full 3 weeks of instruction, Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm. Please think carefully before you claim a spot, there will be no exceptions and if you can't come in the last minute or can only come for a part of the time, you are depriving others of the opportunity. And remember: It's a privilege to be learning from our Elders and what an incredible opportunity this is!
🌟 Preference will be given to LFN Members and Kaskas
🌟 Every participant should try to supply their own hide - this is an important part of the learning process - personal responsibility and resourcefulness.
🌟 Every participant should try to bring brains for tanning and bones for making tools
🌟 We have limited number of fall hides, brains, and bones we can provide, but not enough for everyone.
🌟 Every participant must have their own knives and any other tools they can bring for their own use - we have some tools, but not enough - this too is an important part of the process - personal responsibility and resourcefulness.
🌟🌟🌟 Please email language@liardfirstnation.ca to learn more and to register for this incredible opportunity. 🌟🌟🌟
Food will be provided for the entire 3 weeks. Everyone is welcome to come and join us (you don't have to be LFN or Kaska to come and visit with us) for a few hours, a day, or as long as you are able to. There will likely be other cultural and traditional activities going on during the three weeks.
People are welcome to camp at the campground and enjoy time on the land and with each other.
