Solid Waste Handling, Landfill Operations
The Watson Lake Landfill is the designated site for the disposal of most non-recyclable and non-compostable solid waste within town limits.
When You Visit:
•All visitors must first be weighed and declare what they’re disposing.
•Waste must be sorted properly (e.g., scrap metal, construction debris, or household garbage must be separated).
•You’ll be directed to the designated drop-off area based on what you’re unloading.
Things to Remember:
•Please follow and respect posted signage in and on the vicinity of the Landfill and the Facility. Leaving your waste by the entrance is prohibited and will result to fines.

Hazardous Waste:
In the Yukon, Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days are special events where residents can safely dispose of items that can’t go into the landfill — such as old paint, solvents, pesticides, fuel, batteries, and other dangerous materials.
These collection days are held a few times each year at the Watson Lake Landfill Facility. Watch for announcements from the Town for the next collection date.
The Next Collection Date will be on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
The Yukon Government Website provides a thorough list of hazardous waste that are accepted on Hazardous Waste Days:
