Council of the Town of Watson Lake is currently in the process of adopting Draft Zoning Amendment Bylaw #2024-05.

The proposed amendments to Zoning Bylaw 2023-05 supports clear understanding of the bylaw where there were previously opportunities for misinterpretations, sets direction for municipal staff and the public, and provides for additional uses in the CD – Commercial, Downtown and CM – Commercial, Mixed Use zones.

The proposed amendments to provide clarification and add principal uses to the commercial zones are:
1.Add on-site storage of motor vehicles and recreational vehicles to Commercial Storage definition;
2.State that a lodging facility shall, not may, be to CSA A277 standard;
3.State that when a Development Officer issues an order that it shall, not may, contain and follow specific criteria;
4.When a shipping container may be used as a temporary use structure during construction, adding a time period for such use;
5.Add Car wash and Church as principal uses in CD – Commercial, Downtown zone; and,
6.Add Car wash, and Hotels and Motels as principal uses in CM – Commercial, Mixed Use zone.

A copy of the draft Zoning Amendment Bylaw may be obtained from the Town Office between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, inclusive. The draft Zoning Amendment Bylaw is also available on the Town of Watson Lake website.

Council has established Tuesday, May 14, 2024, as the date to hear and consider all verbal and written submissions relating to the proposed revision. The Public Hearing shall take place on the date established above at 6:00 pm at the Town Council Chambers. Deadline for the receipt of written submissions is Thursday, May 9, 2024, prior to 4:30 pm.
